ABOUT
“In order to envision a future in which we will all be liberated from the root causes of the climate crisis—capitalism, extractivism, racism, sexism, classism, ableism and other systems of oppression”
Ever-Going-Present is a long-term research based project led by Aleyda Rocha which started in January 2020 as part of her work at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. In Ever-Going-Present using participatory methods, sound and storytelling to question visions of future-making, uncertainties and speculation to explore the catastrophes of colonialism, patriarchism and environmental degradation in relationship to the Environment.
The project involves an international community of social workers, activists, designers and scholars who are committed to rethinking and calling out design processes, media framings and strategies that currently continue legacies of extraction of of data, bodies, experiences intrinsically linked with the colonial project. Battling climate change while deepening the exploitation of the global south is to continue a legacy of inequalities.
Through texts, workshops, and exhibitions we are examining the complicity of sustainability transitions in the reproduction of oppressive systems, but also tell long-silenced stories. Constantly researching feminist pedagogies, we stir alternative modes of teaching design, initiating workshops, bringing like-minded people together to learn from and with each other.
The project values collaboration, small gestures and the co-creation of knowledge, therefore often join forces with people, collectives and initiatives whose work share a common political ground. The project believes in the transformative potential of networks of care and are constantly looking for possibilities of how we can create more socially sustainable futures.
